Japanese automaker Nissan has announced that is recalling almost 2.14 million vehicles including Cubes and March subcompacts.
As much as 834,759 units are being recalled in Japan itself and almost 762,000 in the US and Canada.
Nissan believes there is some fault in the engine control system in the nine models being recalled that were manufactured between August 2003 and July 2006.
This ignition relay problem can cause the engine to stall while running or fail to restart. Thus, the company wants to fix it. Majority of these recalled automobiles were manufactured in Japan and North America.
Nissan spokesman Toshitake Inoshit told that no accidents associated with this fault have been reported so far. The company has not disclosed cost estimates associated with the recall. Nonetheless, replacement of the ignition relay is expected to be relatively cheap. The repair work for each vehicle is likely to take up to 25 minutes.
Previously, Toyota had also announced a recall of about 1.66 million automobiles last week to fix fuel pump wiring and brake master cylinder related defects. Seems like recalls over a million vehicles has become a common phenomenon among leading automakers nowadays.
